For many employees with statutory health insurance, the doctor sends incapacity-for-work data electronically to the health insurer and the employer retrieves it. The employee must still notify the employer. Paper or separate evidence may still be needed in exceptions, including some private-insurance, foreign-doctor and technical-failure cases.
